Suan, Lapid shine in 12th Oro Open Golf Tournament


JUN Suan and Michael Lapid shared the limelight in the 12th Oro Open Golf Tournament concluded here recently at Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club.
Suan opened up with 38 on the first day then improved with 29 to post a total gross of 67, while Lapid came up with 84 for the overall lowest net in the friendship tourney organized by the Rotary Club of West Cagayan de Oro.
Miguel Chiong won the Class A division title with 39, followed by Danny Martin and Rolly Uy who had 38 and 37, respectively.
It was also a close fight for the Class B title as Jun Go Jr. edged Jun Papandayan, 42-41 with Jerry Limbonhai settling for the third place honor.
Pocholo Ponce de Leon, meanwhile, nosed out Rey Jampit and Arwin Kho for the Class C plum, even as Macoy Dimaporo carded a 42 to beat Cesar Merias (41) and Judix Nagtalon (40) for the Class D diadem.
This, as Lee Myung Jin showed too much class when she delivered a 39 to outshine Jang Yang Hee (34) and Kristene Leonen for the ladies’ division crown.
Around 250 parbusters from the Match Clubs of Zamboanga, Davao, Cebu, Makati and Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental saw action in the three-day golfest.
Rotary Club of West president Ladislao "Laddie" P. Zarsuelo said the Oro Open is the club's annual major fund-raising activity for its current and forthcoming livelihood and community projects for Rotary Year 2011-2012.
Proceeds of the tourney, Zarsuelo said, will be used to implement the club's various community projects such as the Most Outstanding Public School Teacher Award-MOPSTA 2012; completion of a 2-classroom school building at the Linangohan Elementary School in Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City; UPLIFT Scholarship Program for 16 public high school students; construction of a Ferro-Cement Water tank with a capacity of 10,000 liters; and construction of a hand washing facility for public schools. (LLS)

September 24, 2011 Club Bulletin / District Governor's Club Visit










TRI-DISTRICT SEAMLESS SEMINAR A SUCCESS

The Seminar hosted by the club last September 17, 2011 was a complete success with the attendance of more than 300 Rotarians.  Rotarians from as far as Antique, Zamboanga City, Tagbilaran and Tagum were in attendance.

District 3860 led by DG Nonoy Villa Abrille had a very big delegation coming from almost all the areas covered by the district like Leyte, Bohol, Surigao, Agusan, Davao, General Santos, Cebu and Davao del Sur. District 3850 led by DG Melvin de la Serna was well represented as well by Rotarians from as far as Zamboanga City and Zamboanga del Norte.

Not to be outdone, District 3870 led by DG Sam Fontanilla as host District also had a good attendance coming from all the zones.

The seminar went smoothly conducted by well known speakers like PDG Lyne Abanilla and PDG Chit Lijauco who discussed Public Image, PDG Bobby Viray for The Rotary Foundation, PDG Dave Villanueva for Membership, assisted by PDG Toto Cupin and PDG Mac Hermoso.

Our members also came out in numbers and actively participated in handling the seminar. Particular recognition is given to the ladies who were kept busy at the Registration Center.

Acknowledgement is also given to STI and staff for providing the the registration paraphernalia, San Miguel Brewery for the beer, and Smart Communications for the prizes.
